Electronic Print Media Service images require application(s) that are compatible with TIFF and/or EPS file formats. The TIFF images are saved as TIFF files in Adobe Photoshop. EPS images are saved as Adobe Illustrator 1.1 files. Any other hardware requirements will be based primarily on the applications you use and the type of final output you plan to produce. For best results, your printer should be PostScript compatible.
All documentation assumes you have a basic understanding of how to use your computer and the programs you have purchased for it.
ART SELECTION
--------------
** Tearsheet Magazine **
Tearsheet contains a printed pictorial index, which provides a thumbnail and file name for each image in the issue.
** Aldus Fetch **
The Aldus Fetch folder contains:
Ñ The Aldus Fetch Browser application
Ñ An Aldus Fetch Browser catalog of the current month's images
Ñ A cumulative Aldus Fetch Browser catalog of the current year's images
Ñ An export file for use with Aldus Fetch
Each of these is explained below. YOU DO NOT NEED FETCH, OR ANY OF THE ITEMS IN THE ALDUS FETCH FOLDER, TO USE THE ARTWORK.
Aldus Fetch Browser application: This application allows you to "browse" a catalog of images. You can view thumbnail versions of the images in the catalog, search for images by keywords, preview images, and copy them to your hard drive.
Current month Browser catalog: This catalog contains all the images in the current month's Electronic Print Media Service package.
Current year Browser catalog: This catalog contains all the images from January of the current year through the present.
Aldus Fetch export file: If you own Aldus Fetch (a database application that lets you catalog images, movies, and sounds), this export file can be used to create Fetch catalogs. Like the Browser, Fetch allows you to view thumbnail versions of the images, search for images by keywords, preview images, and copy them to your hard drive; in addition, Fetch also allows you to add your own images, movies and sounds to your catalog. If you wish to use Fetch, you may purchase it by calling our telemarketing department at 800-255-8800. International customers, contact your local Dynamic Graphics representative.
For information on how to use the export file to create a catalog in Aldus Fetch, see the Using Aldus Fetch section below.
** Multi-Ad Search **
Because keywords and descriptions are attached to the image files, they can be used with Search. When you Add Files to your catalog, Search will pick up the keywords and descriptions from the image files.
USING THE CLIP ART
------------------
** PAGE LAYOUT PROGRAMS **
Open your page layout program, create a new document and place the TIFF and EPS files as you would any other images. The following page layout programs are compatible with both TIFF & EPS file formats:
ÑAldus PageMaker
ÑQuarkXpress
ÑReady, Set, Go!
ÑVentura Publisher
** DRAW PROGRAMS **
Open your draw program and OPEN the EPS file. These images can be manipulated like any other EPS image. The following draw programs are compatible with the EPS file format:
ÑAdobe Illustrator
ÑAldus FreeHand (TIFF files can be PLACED in a document)
ÑCanvas
Many of your Electronic Clipper EPS images are provided as layered illustrations. This means that several elements can be lifted out of a single image and used as stand-alone artwork. In order to pull apart or separate the layers of an EPS file, a PostScript draw program like Adobe Illustrator or Aldus FreeHand is necessary.
** PAINT PROGRAMS **
The TIFF files are either 300 dpi black and white images or 170 dpi grayscale, duotone, and color images. They can be manipulated like any other TIFF image in the following programs:
ÑAdobe Photoshop (EPS images are converted to bitmap images)
ÑCanvas
ÑColor Studio
ÑDigital Darkroom
ÑImage Studio
ÑPixelPaint Professional (EPS images are converted to bitmap images)
ÑSuperPaint
If your application was not listed above, please refer to your manual for compatiblity.
